Cookie Policy

This policy explains how PingMyThing uses cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics where you consent.

Last updated: 9 June 2026

1. Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how PingMyThing (“PMT”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and, where relevant, the PMT Service.

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies may also store information on, or access information from, your browser or device.

We use cookies only where they are useful for operating the website, protecting the Service, remembering choices, understanding website use, or improving PMT. Some cookies are necessary. Others, such as analytics cookies, are optional and should only be used where you consent.

This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

2. Types of cookies we may use

We may use the following types of cookies or similar technologies.

Strictly necessary cookies: these are needed for the website or Service to work properly. They may support security, session handling, consent preferences, load balancing, form protection or basic site operation.

Preference cookies: these may remember choices you make, such as cookie consent preferences or display settings.

Analytics cookies: these help us understand how visitors use the public website, which pages are viewed, how people arrive at the site, and whether pages are useful. We currently use Google Analytics for this purpose where consent is given.

Security and abuse-prevention technologies: these may be used to help protect the site and Service from misuse, spam, attacks, unauthorised access or excessive automated traffic.

3. Strictly necessary cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are used where needed to provide the website or Service you request, keep it secure, remember essential choices, or allow core functions to work.

These cookies do not normally require consent, but we still explain them here for transparency.

Examples may include cookies or similar technologies used for:

  • security and fraud prevention;
  • session management;
  • remembering cookie consent choices;
  • protecting forms or login areas;
  • load balancing or service reliability;
  • basic WordPress, Divi, security plugin or hosting functionality.

The exact cookies may change as the website, hosting, security controls or plugins change.

4. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics on the public PMT website to understand general website usage and improve the site. Google Analytics may tell us, for example, which pages are visited, how visitors arrived at the site, what type of device or browser was used, and whether pages are useful.

Google Analytics is not needed for the website to function. It should only run where you have given analytics consent through our cookie banner or consent settings.

We do not use Microsoft Clarity at this time.

We do not intend to use analytics cookies to identify individual visitors personally. However, analytics data may still involve identifiers, device information, IP-related information, browser data and usage events, and may therefore be personal data depending on context.

5. Google Analytics cookies we expect to use

Google Analytics 4 may set the following cookies when analytics consent is given.

Cookie Provider Purpose Default duration Consent required?
_ga Google Analytics Used to distinguish users for analytics reporting. Up to 2 years by default, unless configured differently. Yes
_ga_<container-id> Google Analytics Used to persist session state for analytics reporting. Up to 2 years by default, unless configured differently. Yes

Google may change cookie names, purposes or durations from time to time. We may also configure shorter durations or different analytics settings.

If we later enable Google Ads, remarketing, advertising features or additional measurement tools, we will update this policy and the cookie consent options where required.

6. What analytics data may include

Where Google Analytics is enabled with your consent, analytics data may include:

  • pages viewed;
  • approximate location derived from network information;
  • device, browser and operating system information;
  • referring site or campaign information;
  • time spent on pages and interaction events;
  • cookie identifiers or similar analytics identifiers;
  • technical information needed to produce aggregate reports.

We use this information to understand public website performance and improve PMT content, documentation and navigation.

7. Where analytics should not be used

Google Analytics should not be used on pages that expose private PMT service data, tokens, project signals, customer dashboards, account secrets, reveal pages, billing details or sensitive support content.

If analytics is accidentally enabled on a page where it should not run, we should disable it or exclude that page as soon as reasonably practical.

PMT’s signal model is based on minimising unnecessary data. Analytics should not be used in a way that undermines that approach.

8. Cookie consent

When you first visit our website, we may show a cookie banner or consent notice.

Strictly necessary cookies may be set without consent where they are required for the website or Service to work.

Analytics cookies should only be set if you choose to allow analytics cookies.

You can refuse analytics cookies and still use the public website. Some optional measurement features may not work if analytics cookies are refused.

If our cookie banner provides a way to change your choices, you can use it to update your consent. You can also clear cookies or adjust cookie settings in your browser.

9. Browser controls

Most browsers allow you to block, delete or restrict cookies. You can usually find these controls in your browser’s privacy or security settings.

Blocking all cookies may affect how some parts of the website or Service work. Blocking analytics cookies should not prevent you from reading the public website.

If you use more than one browser or device, you may need to set your choices separately on each browser or device.

10. Third-party cookies and services

Some cookies or similar technologies may be set or processed by third-party providers that help us operate, secure or understand the website.

For Google Analytics, Google may process analytics data in accordance with its own terms, privacy notices and data protection arrangements.

We do not sell personal data to advertisers.

11. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted on our website unless another method of notice is required.

If we change the cookies or analytics tools we use in a material way, we will update this policy and, where required, refresh or request consent again.
